ArtsCO: Art Is What You Make of It

Film Director · Commercial Video Producer

Interview frame from the ArtsCO Art Is What You Make of It artist series inside a theatre.

The film

The series introduced Okanagan artists through filmed interviews, artwork and performance inside a quiet theatre.

The approach

James directed and produced the video series for the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan during the 2020 shutdown.

James filmed artists and presenters with multi-camera interview coverage, moving between their work, their stories and the empty theatre around them.

The artist series

Local arts access during the 2020 shutdown.

Each instalment gave an Okanagan artist time to speak about their work and share it with the community.

Made during COVID-19, Art Is What You Make of It helped ArtsCO keep local artists visible while galleries, stages and gathering spaces were disrupted.

The films move between artist interviews, work on display and the theatre itself, with occasional BTS views of the multi-camera setup.
