Watch Autumn Sun by Sarah Osborne (2021)
A masked figure in Naramata, a hillside above the lake and a guitar performance after dark. Autumn Sun is Sarah Osborne’s 2021 music video, directed, photographed and edited by James Alton. Watch the film below, followed by a closer look at its daylight scenes and night performance.
Watch the music video
Watch Autumn Sun on Sarah Osborne’s YouTube channel. The video moves between a rural story, a masked figure and Sarah’s guitar performance.
Sarah Osborne is the artist and executive producer. The story is by Sarah Osborne and James Alton, with Kathleen Sinclair as Marjorie and Sarah as the Coyote and herself. The coyote mask is by Jodi Whitney / MyHeartAndArmour.
Daylight above the lake
In the hillside image above, sunlight comes from behind the figure. It catches the hat and hair, while flare crosses the picture. The pale shirt, dry ground and distant lake share much of the frame’s warm colour.
The upward-facing profile below brings the face closer while keeping the trees, slope and water visible. Compare the two shots: the first places a figure within the landscape; the second makes the head and neck the strongest shapes against it.
Guitar after dark
The performance image changes the balance. Warm light picks out Sarah’s face, hair, hand and guitar against a nearly black background. A few distant lights remain visible, but the landscape no longer fills the shot.
Seen beside the daylight frames, the night performance offers a simple comparison in lighting and composition: broad views of a person in a place, then a smaller area of light around the musician.
